In the Name of Allah, the Gracious, the Merciful And may the Blessings of Allah be upon our Master Muhammad, his family, and his Companions, upon them be abundant peace. Alhamdulillah, The praise is for Allah. If you are receiving this message, either you, someone you know, or both have benefitted tremendously from the illustrious works and talents of Shaykh Hassan ‘Ali Cisse, may Allah be well pleased with him. Amongst the many favors that Allah bestowed upon His servant’s blessed hands is the African American Islamic Institute (AAII) Qur’anic School (Daraji) located in Medina Baye, Kaolack, Senegal. We, our parents, and our elders, may Allah bless them, have been exposed to the purity of the message of Islam, and for some of us and them, the blessing of a reunion with West Africa through Shaykh Hasan’s life changing work. The establishment of AAII’s Qur’anic School for the teaching of American students, many of whom were African-American, to learn the beautiful Qur’an and other Islamic sciences in a traditional environment for the first time ever in American Islamic history is the legacy that was bequeathed to us by our Muslim West Africa’s forefathers whose tireless struggles against idolatry, disbelief, and colonialism maintained and flourished such an atmosphere. One cannot deny that Medina Baye is a shining example of such a great legacy and that our access to it came through the hand of our beloved Shaykh Hassan Cisse. Right now, the institution that gave so many of us the spiritual life and light that we’re surviving on is in economic and environmental decay, meaning that the school is in need of help in the form of structural renovation of the foundation, walls and floors. Overall, it is in need of new and improved facilities for the learning and lodging of students. In short, an enhancement of the school needs to take place. With the permission of Shaykh Mouhammadou Mahy Cisse, Director of AAII’s Qur’an School, this is an appeal to you to join Nasrul Ilm America to address these issues by taking part in sending monthly donations as one entity for the necessary renovations and for the maintenance of the School once the enhancements have been made. This is part of an an ongoing effort to aid and assist Shahkh Mahy in his supervision of the enhancement of the school, where the teaching of the Book of Allah and related sciences deserves to be the best kept place in the world.We have consulted with some of the notable elders of our community such as Shaykh Abdul Azeem Shabazz, Imam Sayeed Abdus-Salaam, Imam Salim Joseph, Hajj Abdul-Majid Muhammad, Hajja Ayisha Jeffries, Hajja Ashaki Taha-Cisse, Hajja Latifah ‘Abd-Hamid and Hajja Kareema Abdul-Kareem, who are among Shaykh Hassan’s deputies, and they fully support this effort. Our intention, with the help of Allah and your support, is to continue the tradition that our beloved Shaykh Hassan started and that our pioneers and elders with the ‘Yellow House’ maintained by sending more American children there to learn to eventually become proficient in Qur’an and the sciences, receive training in an environment that’s conducive to Islamic ideals, and learn the culture of a vibrant Islamic society that is rare and slowly disappearing the world over. We also want to encourage and facilitate the means for our youth to become qualified to return to America to enhance the Islamic community here by being reared in Medina Baye like so many of the Alumni of the African American Islamic Institute, to continue and help them in their work.
